Coronary artery bypass surgery

This operation is performed under general anaesthetic.

The narrowings in the coronary arteries are bypassed by sewing a tube from the aorta to beyond the narrowing in the artery.  Arteries and veins are used for this procedure. It is common to require several grafts.
